Get to know us

We’re a family of five from Bucks County, PA — two working parents and three girls who are learning that the best adventures are the ones you share.

Hi 👋 I’m a mom in her early forties navigating the beautiful chaos of raising three girls (we’re talking elementary school down to preschool) while trying to squeeze as much living as possible into the weekends we have. We’re about 45 minutes west of Philadelphia, which means day trips and short adventures fit the best into our schedules and we plan for longer trips over school breaks and summer.

Compass & Crumbs started because I kept getting the same question from other parents: “How did you find that?” Whether it was a hidden gem of a cave tour in eastern PA, a hiking trail that the littlest actually made it through, or a recipe that all three kids would eat without a single complaint — I wanted a place to share what we’ve discovered.

We are not a family that travels in matching outfits or stays at five-star resorts. We are very much a “did everyone eat or pack snacks? does anyone need to pee? okay let’s go” kind of family. And I think that’s exactly why this blog exists — to give real, useful info to families who look a lot like ours.

What You’ll Find Here

Travel: Day trips, overnights, and hidden gems worth the drive — from Bucks County and beyond. Real reviews from a family that’s actually been there with kids in tow.

Outdoors: Trails, parks, and active adventures that keep everyone moving. Including the stubborn five-year-old who insists she’s tired after exactly one block.

Kitchen: How to involve little hands that want to help and big messes that will absolutely follow. The good stuff we make together and actually eat.

Why I Write This

I write this blog the way I’d text a friend — honestly, a little imperfectly, and always with the goal of actually being helpful. No fluff, no pressure to love something I don’t. Just a mom sharing what worked (and occasionally what very much did not).

So whether you’re planning your next weekend adventure, looking for something active to do with the kids, or just trying to get everyone in the kitchen without losing your mind — you’re in the right place. Pull up a chair, grab a snack (crumbs welcome), and follow along.
